لمَّا تَفَكَّرتُ في شَيءٍ أُسَيّرُهُ

لمَّا تَفَكَّرتُ في شَيءٍ أُسَيّرُهُ

لِصَفْوةِ الهاشِميينِ الفَتَى خَلَف

لِصَفْوةِ الهاشِميينِ الفَتَى خَلَف

When I pondered something I might send

When I thought of something to eulogize

to the choicest of the Hashimites, the young man Khalaf,

For the elite of Hashim's youth, the succeeding heir,

وجَدْتُ أَنَّ سَلاَمَ اللَّهِ يعقِبُهُ

وجَدْتُ أَنَّ سَلاَمَ اللَّهِ يعقِبُهُ

بَعْضُ الثَّنَاءِ عَلَيهِ أجْمَلُ التُّحَفِ

بَعْضُ الثَّنَاءِ عَلَيهِ أجْمَلُ التُّحَفِ

I found that God's peace, followed

I found that may Allah's peace follow it

by some praise of him, was the loveliest of gifts.

Some praise for him is the most beautiful gift.

فَشَاعَهُ حَيثُ ما ألْقَى مَرَاسِيَهُ

فَشَاعَهُ حَيثُ ما ألْقَى مَرَاسِيَهُ

سَلاَمُ مُثْنٍ عَلَى نُعْمَاهُ مُعْتَرِفِ

سَلاَمُ مُثْنٍ عَلَى نُعْمَاهُ مُعْتَرِفِ

So may he be accompanied, wherever he drops his anchors,

So it spread wherever he pitched his tent,

by the greeting of one who praises his bounty and acknowledges it.

A greeting of praise for his virtues from one acknowledging.
