خُذهtake it إليكَto yourself كصَفْحةِlike the surface of المرآةِthe mirror
خُذه إليكَ كصَفْحةِ المرآةِ
بَدْراًa full moon يكثِّفُthickens حالكَpitch-black الظُّلماتِthe darkness
بَدْراً يكثِّفُ حالكَ الظُّلماتِ
Take it to yourself, like the surface of a mirror,
a full moon that thickens the pitch-black darkness.
وكأنهand as though it were الدِّينارُthe dinar ثُبِّتَwere fixed حولهaround it
وكأنه الدِّينارُ ثُبِّتَ حوله
بيضُwhite الدرَاهمthe dirhams غيرُnot مُجتَمعاتِgathered together
بيضُ الدرَاهم غيرُ مُجتَمعاتِ
And it is like a dinar, around which were set
white dirhams, not gathered together.
وكأنَّهand as though it were والنَّقْصُand the waning يأخذُtakes away بعضَهpart of it
وكأنَّه والنَّقْصُ يأخذُ بعضَه
قُرصُa disc اللُّجينِsilver مُثلَّمُnotched الجَنَباتِthe edges
قُرصُ اللُّجينِ مُثلَّمُ الجَنَباتِ
And, as waning takes away part of it, it is like
a disc of silver, notched along its edges.
وكأنهand as though it were والمحوُand the erasure فيin أرجائِهits reaches
وكأنه والمحوُ في أرجائِه
وجهُthe face of الفتاةِthe girl مُجدَّرُpockmarked الصَّفَحاتِthe cheeks
وجهُ الفتاةِ مُجدَّرُ الصَّفَحاتِ
And, with erasure across its reaches, it is like
a girl's face, its cheeks pockmarked.
