Say to the highest of all people in station and rank,

and the most exalted of humankind in esteem, and the most renowned,

and the generous man who built for those with

hopes a Kaaba in Manama’s precincts:

And his father is the man we know; as for

his mother, she is most like the Virgin.

Virtuous is he who was raised among the virtuous,

his honor pure of lewdness and disgrace.

May God have mercy on his parents and preserve

him as long as the worlds endure, and exalt his standing.

Indeed, a group of friends is with me,

and friends are the dearest of all people to me.

And in my house is all I could wish—praise be to God—

but there is not a grain of shanbah in it.

And what moved me to seek your bounty was the affection

you already know, and our companionship.

    ولَئنْ كَانَ غيرُ ذَاكَ فَغَضْبَهْ

    So if what I asked for comes, then thanks;

and if it is otherwise, then anger.

And may God strike whoever opposes you, O

Rashid, with either a serpent or a spear.

Then if he repents after that—otherwise,

may He strike him with a stab or a blow.

And whoever is angered by my prayer and does not

approve of what I have said of you is a son...
