يَاO سَادَةًlords أَبعَدَتْcarried far away أَيدِيَhands النَّوَىseparation بِهِمُwith them
يَا سَادَةً أَبعَدَتْ أَيدِيَ النَّوَى بِهِمُ
عنِّيaway from me لذاذةَsweetness أيَّامِيmy days كَماjust as بَعُدُواthey grew distant
عنِّي لذاذةَ أيَّامِي كَما بَعُدُوا
O lords, the hands of separation have carried away with them
O masters, the hands of fate have drawn them away from me,
The sweetness of my days from me, just as they grew distant.
Depriving me of the sweetness of my days as they departed.
بِنْتُمْyou departed فَماand not عَطَفَتْturned لِيtoward me فيat الوَدَاعِfarewell يَدٌa hand
بِنْتُمْ فَما عَطَفَتْ لِي في الوَدَاعِ يَدٌ
مِنْكُمْfrom among you ولاnor بَلَّmoistened; refreshed بالتَّسْويفِwith promises of 'later' لِيfor me كَبِدُa liver
مِنْكُمْ ولا بَلَّ بالتَّسْويفِ لِي كَبِدُ
You departed, and no hand turned toward me at farewell
You built, but no hand of yours waved farewell to me,
From among you, nor was my liver refreshed by promises of 'later'.
Nor did any of you ease my heart by delaying.
