جزَىmay reward اللَّهُGod عَنَّاon our behalf زَاهِراًZahir فيfor صَنِيعِهِhis kindness
بِنَاto us خَيرُthe best ماwhat يُجزَىis rewarded علَىfor الخَيرِgoodness مُنْعِمُa benefactor
May God reward Zahir on our behalf for what he has done
May God reward Zahir on our behalf for his kindness
for us—the finest reward a benefactor receives for goodness.
to us, with the best reward a benefactor receives for goodness.
تَتَبَّعَhe pursued أقْصَىthe farthest ثَارَنَاour blood-vengeance فأَصَابَهُand reached it
فَمَاso no طُلَّwas left unavenged مِنَّاof ours عِندَwith نُصْرَتِهِhis aid دَمُblood
He pursued our vengeance to its farthest reach and attained it,
He pursued the farthest target of our vengeance and reached it;
so through his aid no blood of ours was left unavenged.
so with his aid, no blood of ours was left unavenged.
دَرَىhe knew أنَّthat عندَwith الحُوتِthe whale بَعضَsome of دِمَائِنَاour blood
فَخَاضَso he plunged into إلِيهِtoward it البَحْرَthe sea والبَحْرُwhile the sea مُفْعَمُbrimming
He knew that some of our blood was with the whale,
He knew that the whale held some of our blood,
so he plunged through the sea toward it, though the sea brimmed full.
so he plunged into the sea toward it, while the sea was brimming.
وَأَغْرَبَand he worked wonders فيin استِئْصَالِهِdestroying it completely فَأتَىand he came بِهَاwith it
يَشُقُّis arduous علَىfor مُسْتَصيدِيهِthose who seek to catch it ويَعْظُمُand is formidable
He went to extraordinary lengths to root it out, and brought off a feat
And he worked wonders in destroying it, accomplishing a feat
that proves arduous and formidable to those who would hunt it.
arduous and formidable for those who seek to catch it.
فَأصْبَحَso he became صَيَّاداًa hunter ومَاand not كَانَhe was قَبلَهاbefore that
بِشيءٍof anything سِوَىexcept صَيدِhunting الفضَائِلِvirtues يَعْلَمُhe knew
Thus he became a hunter, though before this
So he became a hunter; before that, he had not
he was known for hunting nothing but virtues.
known anything but the hunting of virtues.
فَمَاfor no مَدَّstretched out كَفّاًa hand للتُرَاةِfor blood-vengeance ولاnor مَشَىwalked
بِأقْدَامِهِon his feet فيin الأخْذِexacting للثَّارِblood-vengeance مُسْلِمُa Muslim
No Muslim stretched out a hand for vengeance,
For no Muslim ever stretched out a hand for blood-vengeance, nor walked
nor walked on his own feet to exact revenge.
on his own feet to exact revenge.
فَحَيَّاهُso may it greet him عَنِّيon my behalf حَيثُwhere ماever حَطَّhe set down رِجْلَهُhis foot

So wherever upon the earth he sets down his foot, let him be greeted for me
So may he be greeted on my behalf wherever he sets foot
by a thundering rain cloud, its twin girdles loosened.
on earth, by a thundering cloud with both its girdles unbound.
