    Come, tell our master Raḍī,

brother to kindness and gracious character:

Why did he run, yet never once attain

the distant goal, nor the near one?

So his describer ascribed nothing to him,

for he is neither swift nor slow.

And the goal toward which he [raced?],

but fell short of, is no distant goal.

Nor did I fail to yield, nor did his hands cast

their implement into the two waterholes of a scant-yielding source.

And he did not throw down the waterskin, when he cast

it, except upon the incoming torrent.
