    تَخلَّصَ عن قَلبِ امْرئٍ مُخلِصِ الوِدِّ

    A greeting surpassing wine in gentleness and delicacy,

    Springing from the heart of a man sincere in affection;

    And the fragrance of praise, like the east wind as it blows,

    Then comes with a waft of roses in its breath,

    سَمَتْ وزَكَتْ أعْراقُها في بني سَعْدِ

    To him who rides, in glory, the crown of a spreading tree

    That rose high, with roots pure among the Banu Saʿd;

    Brother to kindness, if the clouds withhold their water

    In drought, and every ear pricks up toward the thunder.

    And now: you have indeed bestowed favors upon me,

    Too great to be repaid with thanks and praise.

    So my branch has grown leafy through your bounty,

    And my hand gives, thanks to the bounty you bestowed on it.
