O you who persist heedlessly in your error,

O you who stand upon the shattered remains of foreheads,

Hold back—for in the groans of those you trampled

is a fearsome voice whose echo will thunder.

Never trust Time if it slumbers

in its pitch-dark cave and its dreams grow long.

For if today and what preceded it have passed away,

then in the living tomorrow lies the morning of life.

    O tyrant, do not scorn,

for Truth is mighty and long-forbearing.

It slumbers, yet within its eyelids is a wakefulness

that gazes toward the dawn you do not see.
