تَنازَعوا القَطرَ ميزا
Why have I become intoxicated, like drinkers
Why did I become intoxicated as though I had drank wine,
What ails me that I am intoxicated like the drinkers
who passed the wine jar among themselves?
They competed over the raindrops as spoils,
Who contended for the rain-drops to mix their wine?

قَد أَشبَهَ القَطرُ دَمعي

The rain has come to resemble my tears,
The raindrops resembled my tears,
The rain has come to resemble my tears,
so I cannot distinguish the rain from them.
So I no longer see the raindrops as spoils.
So I see no distinction in the rain.
