To one who said, “Time has never worn down anyone
And someone said, 'Time has not worn down one
A friend said, "Passing time does not weary
And to a speaker saying, "Time has not worn down the man
who remained patient,” I replied, “No—it has worn him down.”
Who was patient.' I replied, 'On the contrary, it has.'
The patient man." I said, "That is a lie -
Who was patient," I replied, "Nay, it has worn him away."

And how can one in exile endure with patience,
And how can one in exile find patience,
It wearied me." How can the lonely captive
For how can patience be found in an exile,
when longing has stirred such turmoil within him?
When longing has stirred turmoil within him?
Be patient, when yearning sets heart and soul aflutter?
In whom longing has stirred a tumult of distress?
