وقالوا قد عميتَ فقلتُ كلّا

فإنِّي اليومَ أبصرُ من بصيرِ

فإنِّي اليومَ أبصرُ من بصيرِ

They said, “You have gone blind.” I answered, “Never!”

And they said, “You have gone blind,” so I said, “No!

They said, "You have gone blind," so I answered, "Nay,"

For today I am more perceptive than one who sees.

For today I see more clearly than a sighted person.

For today I see more clearly than the sighted;

سوادُ العين زاد سوادَ قلبي

سوادُ العين زاد سوادَ قلبي

لِيجتمعا على فهْمِ الأمورِ

لِيجتمعا على فهْمِ الأمورِ

The darkness of the eye has deepened my heart’s darkness,

The eye’s blackness increased the blackness of my heart,

The blackness of my eye has increased the blackness of my heart,

so that the two may unite in understanding matters.

So that the two might unite in understanding matters.”

That they might unite in understanding the essence of matters.
