أَلفتُ بَعدَكَ دَمعي فَاِشتَفيتُ بِهِ

وَفرقتي لِنَعيمِ العَيشِ ألفيهِ

Since losing you, I have grown intimate with my tears, and found healing in them;

I grew accustomed to my tears after you, and so found healing in them.

After you I wept, quenching my thirst with tears

I grew accustomed to my tears after you, and found in them a cure,

In them I find my severance from the bliss of life.

And my separation from life's bliss—I find it.

And parted from life's joys though once dear

And my separation from the bliss of life—I find it now familiar.

فَقِف قَليلاً عَلى العاصي أَبيكَ غَداً

فَقِف قَليلاً عَلى العاصي أَبيكَ غَداً

وَاِشفَع لَهُ فَيَقولُ اللَهُ أل فيهِ

وَاِشفَع لَهُ فَيَقولُ اللَهُ أل فيهِ

So tomorrow, pause awhile beside the sinner—your father—

So pause a little beside the sinner, your father, tomorrow.

So pause awhile over your disobedient father tomorrow

So stand a while over the Sinner, your father, tomorrow,

and intercede for him; then God will say, “Plead your utmost for him.”

And intercede for him; then God will say: “[unclear word] concerning him.”

And intercede for him, that God may say "I forgive him"

And intercede for him, so God will say: "I hold love for him."
