مُعجَبٌ كَالمُتَنَبّي

مُعجَبٌ كَالمُتَنَبّي

وَهوَ لا يَحسُنُ شَيّا

وَهوَ لا يَحسُنُ شَيّا

Self-admiring like al-Mutanabbi,

Like a fan of al-Mutanabbi

He is self-admiring like Al-Mutanabbi,

though he is good at nothing.

Yet he knows nothing at all

Yet he excels at nothing at all.

إِنَّ هذا يَحيَويّ

إِنَّ هذا يَحيَويّ

أَوتي العِلمَ صَبيّا

أَوتي العِلمَ صَبيّا

Indeed, this man is Yahya-like,

This one pretends

Indeed, this is a Yahya-like figure,

given knowledge while still a boy.

To have been given knowledge as a child

Granted knowledge while still a boy.
