ياO ناثراًscatterer دُرَّpearls عينِيmy eye بلْrather عقيقَcarnelian دمِيmy blood
يا ناثراً دُرَّ عينِي بلْ عقيقَ دمِي
ماwhat بالُcondition طرْفكyour gaze دونِيunlike me صحَّgrew sound بالسَّقمِthrough sickness
ما بالُ طرْفك دونِي صحَّ بالسَّقمِ
O you who scatter the pearls of my eye—nay, the carnelian of my blood!
O you who scatters the pearls of my tears—nay, the carnelian of my blood,
Why has your gaze, unlike me, grown sound through sickness?
Why is your glance, regarding me, so sound in its languid sickness?
وماand what لِتُفَّاحَتَيْwith the two apples of خدّيكَyour two cheeks أيْنعَتاthey both ripened
وما لِتُفَّاحَتَيْ خدّيكَ أيْنعَتا
فأفْطَرَتْso it broke its fast منهماfrom both of them عيْنِيmy eye وصامand fasted فَمِيmy mouth
فأفْطَرَتْ منهما عيْنِي وصام فَمِي
And why have the two apples of your cheeks ripened,
And what of the twin apples of your cheeks that have ripened so,
so my eye broke its fast on them while my mouth fasted?
That my eye broke its fast upon them, while my mouth remained fasting?
