أَصبَحتُ في قَوم عِدىً

أَصبَحتُ في قَوم عِدىً

إِن غِبتُ عَنهُم وَخَزوا

إِن غِبتُ عَنهُم وَخَزوا

I have come to be among hostile folk.

I have become to a hostile people

I have found myself among a hostile people,

If I am absent from them, they stab me.

If I am absent from them, they gloat

If I am absent from them, they pierce and sting;

وَطولَ ما كنتَ معي

وَطولَ ما كنتَ معي

ذَلّوا لِعَزّي وَخَزوا

ذَلّوا لِعَزّي وَخَزوا

And as long as you were with me,

However long you were with me

Yet for as long as you were with me,

They bowed before my might and were disgraced.

They cowered before my power, and gloat

They submitted to my might and were disgraced.
