How did he leave me parched, when

I had in you a place to drink my fill?

Or, once you had reached perfection, did

God say to you, “Pass straight by”?

The envious gloated over my plight

because of you, once separation drew us far apart.

It was said, “They are plotting their guile.”

I said, “Each man shall have what he intends.”

There stood between me and them

the Cleaver of grain and date-stone.
