وَعلَىand upon الفُؤَادِthe heart لَوَاعِجٌburning pangs مُذsince غِبتُمُyou went away
وَعلَى الفُؤَادِ لَوَاعِجٌ مُذ غِبتُمُ

تَقِدُ الضُّلوعَ تَوَقُّداً وَوَجِيبَا
Upon the heart are searing pangs, since you have been gone,
And burning pangs beset the heart since you went away,
kindling the ribs to a blaze and a pounding.
Setting the ribs ablaze, making them burn and throb.

They have a flutter—have you ever seen a lightning flash?
So they flutter—have you seen a flash of lightning?
And they have a yearning cry—have you ever heard the aged she-camels?
And they moan with longing—have you heard the aged she-camels?
