1. يا لَيلُ طُل لا أَشتَهي

    إِلّا بِوَصلٍ قِصَرَك

    O night, grow long; I do not desire

    your brevity except in union.

  2. لَو باتَ عِندي قَمَري

    ما بِتُّ أَرعى قَمَرَك

    If my moon spent the night with me,

    I would not spend the night watching your moon.

  3. يا لَيلُ خَبِّر أَنَّني

    أَلتَذُّ عَنهُ خَبَرَك

    O night, make it known that I

    delight in your news of him.

  4. بِاللَهِ قُل لي هَل وَفى

    فَقالَ لا بَل غَدَرَك

    By God, tell me: has he kept faith?

    Then it said: “No—rather, he betrayed you.”
