O gazelle, in whom are gathered

    The manifold forms of beauty,

    You, whether near or far,

Are firmly lodged in my soul.

In love for you I while away my days,

And love for you is my creed.

O desire of the lovesick, come to my aid:

Death has already drawn near me.

And keep the pledge, for I

    Am not unfaithful, by God.

And have mercy on a sorrowful, lovesick lover,

Whom griefs have already melted away.

His night is worry and anguish,

    And sickness and moaning.

Love has wasted him away, so he became

A sickness that cannot be discerned.

    He became prey to yearnings,

So eyes turned away from him.
