تَلَقَّيتَهُ لَم يَنصَرِف نابِيَ الحَدِّ
And how astonishing that a bloodletter's lancet,
which you received, did not turn back with a blunted edge!

And how was the man who bled your right hand not
terrified by the ocean's surge at the height of its tide?

and make him stray from his intended course.

Your shed blood flowed through the earth, and it clothed itself
in a garden's varied blooms, like a mantle's border.
فِصادٌa bloodletting أَطابَmade pleasant الدَهرَthe age كَالقَطرِlike rain فيin الثَرىthe soil

كَما طابَ ماءُ الوَردِ في العَنبَرِ الوَردِ
A bloodletting that sweetened the age, like rain in the soil,
as rosewater grows fragrant in rose-hued ambergris.

as though you had taught it nobility in keeping faith.

like a delicate maiden's neck amid a necklace's pearls.
