أَم لِشاكيكَ طَبيبُ

Is there an answerer for one who calls to you,

Is there a respondent for your supplicant?

or a physician for one who complains of you?

Or a healer for your complainant?

يا قَريباً حينَ يَنأى

يا قَريباً حينَ يَنأى

حاضِراً حينَ يَغيبُ

حاضِراً حينَ يَغيبُ

O one who is near when far away,

O near one when distant,

present when absent!

Present when absent.

كَيفَ يَسلوكَ مُحِبٌّ

كَيفَ يَسلوكَ مُحِبٌّ

زانَهُ مِنكَ حَبيبُ

زانَهُ مِنكَ حَبيبُ

How can a lover forget you,

How can a lover endure

when a beloved from you has graced him?

When his beloved is aloof?

إِنَّما أَنتَ نَسيمٌ

إِنَّما أَنتَ نَسيمٌ

تَتَلَقّاهُ القُلوبُ

تَتَلَقّاهُ القُلوبُ

You are but a breeze

You are but a breeze

that hearts welcome.

That hearts receive.

قَد عَلِمنا عِلمَ ظَنٍّ

قَد عَلِمنا عِلمَ ظَنٍّ

هُوَ لا شَكَّ مُصيبُ

هُوَ لا شَكَّ مُصيبُ

We have gained knowledge through conjecture,

We have known with conjectural knowledge

which is, without doubt, correct:

Which is undoubtedly right,

أَنَّ سِرَّ الحُسنِ مِمّا

أَنَّ سِرَّ الحُسنِ مِمّا

أَضمَرَت تِلكَ الجُيوبُ

أَضمَرَت تِلكَ الجُيوبُ

that the secret of beauty lies among what

That the secret of beauty lies

those bosoms have concealed.

In what those hearts conceal.
