لَو تُرِكنا بِأَن نَعودَكَ عُدنا

لَو تُرِكنا بِأَن نَعودَكَ عُدنا

وَقَضَينا الَّذي عَلَينا وَزِدنا

وَقَضَينا الَّذي عَلَينا وَزِدنا

If we were allowed to visit you, we would visit,

Had we been left to return to you, we would have returned

and fulfill what we owe, and do more.

And fulfilled what was upon us, even more

غَيرَ أَنَّ الهَوى اِستَطارَ حَديثاً

غَيرَ أَنَّ الهَوى اِستَطارَ حَديثاً

فَانتَحَتنا العُيونُ لَمّا حُسِدنا

فَانتَحَتنا العُيونُ لَمّا حُسِدنا

But talk of love spread far and wide,

But desire took wing far away

so eyes singled us out when we were envied.

So eyes were averse when we were envied

فَلَوَ انَّ النُفوسَ تُقبَلُ مِنّا

فَلَوَ انَّ النُفوسَ تُقبَلُ مِنّا

لَسَمَحنا بِها فِداءً وَجدُنا

لَسَمَحنا بِها فِداءً وَجدُنا

So if our souls could be accepted from us,

If souls could be ransomed from us

we would freely offer them as ransom, and give generously.

We would have offered ours, eagerly
