وُهَيْبُWuhayb نَجْلِيmy son سَقَىmay water الرَّبَابْthe clouds
قَبْرَكَyour grave قَلْبِيmy heart عَلَيكَover you ذَابْmelted
Wuhayb, my son, may the clouds water
My son's love watered the lute
Wuhaib, my son, may the white clouds water
your grave; my heart has melted in grief for you.
Your grave melted my heart for you
Your grave; my heart has melted over you.
بُنَيِّmy little son يَاO بُنْيَةَedifice ارْتِيَاحِيmy joy
إِنِّيindeed I بُعَيْدَكَshortly after you فِيin انْتِحَابْsobbing
My little son, O edifice of my joy,
My son, my daughter, be at peace
My little boy, O foundation of my joy,
indeed, so soon after your passing, I am sobbing.
For I am in torment without you
Indeed, so soon after you left, I am lost in weeping.
غَرَسْتُI planted حُبَّكَlove for you فِيin فُؤَادِيmy heart
لَمَّاwhen غَرَسْتُكَI planted you فِيin الترابْthe earth
I planted love for you in my heart
I planted my love for you in my heart
I planted your love within my heart
when I planted you in the earth.
When I planted you in the soil
When I planted you within the earth.
فَالحُبُّso love يَنْمُوgrows ولسْتَand you are not تَنْموgrowing
وَالقَلْبُand the heart يَصْلَىburns in لَظَىthe blaze of اكْتِئابْsorrow
So love grows, while you do not grow,
Love grows though you cannot grow
So my love grows, while you grow no more,
and the heart burns in the blaze of sorrow.
And my heart prays, depressed with gloom
And my heart burns in the blazing fire of grief.
مِتَّyou died صَغيراًyoung وَإِنَّand indeed وَجْدِيmy grief
بِكَfor you يَجِلُّis too great عَنِfor الْحِسَابْreckoning
You died young, yet my grief
You died so young, yet my passion for you
You died so young, yet indeed my anguish
for you is beyond reckoning.
Is too great to calculate
For you is too immense for any reckoning.
فَمَاتَso died صَبْرِيmy patience الكَبيرُgreat مَوْتاًa death
وَإِنَّهُand indeed it لِمِنَsurely of اللُّبَابْthe purest essence
So my mighty patience died utterly,
My great patience has died such a death
Thus, my great patience suffered its own death,
and surely it was of the purest kind.
Though it was the patience of rationality
Even though it was of the purest essence.
رَيْحَانَsweet basil قَلْبِيmy heart نَعِمْتَmay you enjoy bliss أَرِّجْmake fragrant
رَيْحانَsweet basil أجْرِيmy reward إِلَىuntil الْحِسَابْthe Reckoning
O sweet basil of my heart, may you enjoy bliss; make fragrant
Fragrance of my heart, you brought ease
O sweet basil of my heart, be in bliss, and perfume
the sweet basil of my reward until the Reckoning.
Fragrance of my reward, face the Reckoning
The sweet basil of my reward until the Day of Reckoning.
وَسَلْand ask لِوَالِدِكَfor your father الْمُعَنَّىanguished
مِنْfrom رَبِّكَyour Lord الْوَاهِبِthe Giver الثَّوَابْreward
And ask, for your anguished father,
And ask your Lord, the Giver of Reward
And ask on behalf of your suffering father,
reward from your Lord, the Giver.
For your father who was so afflicted
From your Lord, the Bestower of rewards;
قَدْindeed كَانَwould have يَقْضِيperished عَلَيْكَover you وَجْداًfrom grief
لَوْلاَwere it not for التَّرَقُّبُthe anticipation لِلذَّهَابْfor departure
He would indeed have perished in grief over you,
Grieving for you, he would have perished
He would have surely died of sorrow over you,
but for his awaiting departure.
Had he not awaited his own departure
Were it not for the anticipation of his own departure.
وَرُوحُكَand your soul الَّلتْwhich زَكَتْgrew pure سَقَتْهَاwatered it
مِنْfrom رَوْحِthe mercy of سَيِّدِكَyour Master الذِّهَابْthe rain showers
And your soul, grown pure, has been watered
And your soul, made pure, was watered
And may your purified soul be watered
by showers of your Master's mercy.
By the soul of your Master, the Everlasting
By the continuous, gentle rains of your Lord's mercy.
