Through you, this place—O you whose departure
With you here in this place, O he whose absence
Through you, this place—O you whose departure
dismayed us—has lost its ill fortune and moonless gloom.
Made it ill-omened and brought it to ruin
Terrified us—has seen its misfortune and waning vanish.

While its fierce, shifting winds sang a melody,
whose ‘Iraq mode made the bough dance to al-Husayn.
Making the branch dance with al-Husayn's charm
Its 'Iraqi' mode making the branch dance to the 'Husayni'.
