تَرَكْنَا الْبِحَارَ الزَّاخِرَاتِ وَرَاءَنَا

إِلَيْكَ أَبََا يَعْزَى فَلَبِّ نِدَاءَنَا

We have left the swelling seas behind us,

Heading toward you, O Abu Ya'za, so answer our call.

فَقَدْ كُنْتَ تُولِينَا النَّدَى وَتُمِدُّنَا

إِذَا اصْطَرَّنَا خَطْبٌ لَكُمْ وَأَجَاءَنَا

For you used to bestow your bounty upon us and sustain us,

Whenever calamity compelled us toward you and drove us to seek refuge.

وَقَدْ كُنْتَ تُشْكِينَاإِذَا قَذَفَتْ بِنَا

إِلَيْكَ النَّوَى وَاشْتَفَّ ذَا الْبَيْنُ مَاءَنَا

And you used to relieve our grievances whenever distance cast us

Toward you, and this separation had drained our vitality.

فَهَا نَحْنُ جِئْنَا وَالرَّجَاءُ رَفِيقُنَا

فَوَفِّ عَطَايَانَا وَأَجْزِلْ حَبَاءَنَا

So here we have come, with hope as our companion,

Therefore, grant our gifts in full and make our bounty abundant.

وَإِلاَّ فَإِنِّي لِلْعُلاَ جِدُّ لاَئِمٍ

نَلُومُ الْعُلاَ أَنْ لاَ يُجِيبَ رَجَاءَنَا

Otherwise, I shall become a harsh critic of greatness,

Blaming greatness for failing to answer our hope.

فَإِنَّ الْكَرِيمَ الْحَضَ مِثْلَكَ قَائِلٌ

نَدَاهُ لِمَنْ يَرْجُوهُ لَبَّيْكَ هَا أَنَا

For the truly noble one, like yourself—his generosity says

To the one who places hope in him: "At your service, here I am."

سَأَشْكُو إِلَى مَثْوَاكَ أَيْضاً نُفُوسَنَا

فَقَدْ أَقْسَمْتَ أَلاَّ تُجِيبَ دُعَاءَنَا

I will also complain to your resting place about our own souls,

For they have sworn never to answer our prayer.

وَأَمْسَتْ لَدَيْنَا لاَ تُرَامُ بِحِيلَةٍ

دَهَاءً وَأَعْيَتْ مَكْرَنَا وَدَهَاءَنَا

They have become impossible for us to subdue by any stratagem,

In their cunning, having exhausted our plotting and our guile.

وَأَضْحَى هَوَاهَا مَالِكاً لِقُلُوبِنَا

وَأَرْدَى خَنَاهَا مَجْدَنَا وَسَنَاءَنَا

Their worldly desires have become the sovereigns of our hearts,

And their depravity has destroyed our glory and our splendor.
