قَدْindeed حُفَّwas surrounded بِالسِّرِّby mystery
قَدْ حُفَّ بِالسِّرِّ
Turn aside to a grave
Stop by a grave
that has been enveloped in mystery,
enveloped in spiritual mystery,

لِفَا ضِلٍ بَرِّ
مَحْضِpure السَّنَاradiance الشَّرَّاطْal-Sharrat
مَحْضِ السَّنَا الشَّرَّاطْ
of a virtuous, righteous man,
belonging to a virtuous, pious man,
pure radiance—al-Sharrat.
pure in his radiance, al-Sharrat.

Indeed, the favored Masud—
Truly, the contented soul is blessed,
since he divorced the perishable
since he divorced the perishable,

بَاهِتْ بِهِ الأَشْرَاطْ
among the blossoms of existence—
from the transient blossoms of this existence;
with him, confound the eminent.
the nobles pale beside him.

In the service of the Lord,
his drink grew sweet;

so it grew pleasant, and he rose high
so he grew pure and ascended,
through it above the middling ranks.
rising above the ordinary ranks.

and rise above Hippocrates.
and rise above Hippocrates.
