إَلَى الْخَيَّاطِ عَبْدِ اللهِ جِئْنَا

إَلَى الْخَيَّاطِ عَبْدِ اللهِ جِئْنَا

وَلِيِّ الَّلهِ وَالإِسْعَادِ مَعْنَا

وَلِيِّ الَّلهِ وَالإِسْعَادِ مَعْنَا

To Abd Allah al-Khayyat we came,

To the tailor Abdullah we came,

To Abdullah al-Khayyat, we have come,

God's saint, with favor beside us.

The friend of God and happiness we brought.

The friend of Allah, and happiness is with us.

نُؤَمِّلُ فَضْلَهُ وَالْفَضْلُ فِيهِ

نُؤَمِّلُ فَضْلَهُ وَالْفَضْلُ فِيهِ

سَجِيَّةُ مَنْ عَلاَ لَفْظاً وَمَعْنَى

سَجِيَّةُ مَنْ عَلاَ لَفْظاً وَمَعْنَى

We hope for his bounty, and bounty in him

We trust in his grace, for grace abounds in him,

We hope for his grace, and grace within him

is the nature of one exalted in word and meaning.

A gift from one whose speech and meaning excelled.

Is the nature of one exalted in word and meaning.

فَوَافَتْنَا الْبَشَائِرُ ضَاحِكَاتٍ

فَوَافَتْنَا الْبَشَائِرُ ضَاحِكَاتٍ

وَقَابَلَنَا مِنَ الآمَالِ مَجْنَى

وَقَابَلَنَا مِنَ الآمَالِ مَجْنَى

Then glad tidings came to us, smiling,

Good tidings came to us, laughing,

Thus glad tidings came to us with laughter,

and a harvest of hopes greeted us.

And hopes were fulfilled by destiny's decree.

And we were met with a harvest of hopes.

أَمَوْلاَنَا الذِي أَهْدَى وَأَسْدَى

أَمَوْلاَنَا الذِي أَهْدَى وَأَسْدَى

وَأَغْنَى مَنْ أَنَاخَ بِهِ وَأَقْنَى

وَأَغْنَى مَنْ أَنَاخَ بِهِ وَأَقْنَى

O our master, who gave gifts and bestowed favors,

It was our patron who guided and gave freely,

O our master, who has gifted and bestowed,

and enriched and endowed whoever encamped beside him.

And enriched those who sought rest and refuge.

And enriched whoever halted their mounts by him, granting them wealth.

بِكَعْبَةِ مَجْدِكُمْ لُذْنَا وَطُفْنَا

بِكَعْبَةِ مَجْدِكُمْ لُذْنَا وَطُفْنَا

وَفِي عَرَفَاتِ عُرْفِكُمْ وَقَفْنَا

وَفِي عَرَفَاتِ عُرْفِكُمْ وَقَفْنَا

We took refuge in the Kaaba of your glory and circled it.

Circling your sanctuary of glory, pleasure we found,

At the Kaaba of your glory, we sought refuge and circled,

And at the Arafat of your kindness we stood.

And at the hill of your nobility, we stood.

And at the Arafat of your kindness, we stood.

وَبَيْنَ صَفَا مَعَالِمِكُمْ سَعَيْنَا

وَبَيْنَ صَفَا مَعَالِمِكُمْ سَعَيْنَا

وَكَبَّرْنَا بِمَشْعَرِهَا فَفُزْنَا

وَكَبَّرْنَا بِمَشْعَرِهَا فَفُزْنَا

And amid the Safa of your landmarks we hastened.

Between the pillars of your great works, we hastened,

And between the Safa of your landmarks, we strove,

And at their sacred station we proclaimed God's greatness, and so triumphed.

And at its markings, we declared God's greatness.

Proclaiming God's greatness at its sacred monument, and thus we triumphed.

وَفِي حَصْبَا الْمُحَصَّبِ مِنْ حِمَاكُمْ

وَفِي حَصْبَا الْمُحَصَّبِ مِنْ حِمَاكُمْ

نَزَلْنَا وَالْعَنَا فِيهِ أَنَخْنَا

نَزَلْنَا وَالْعَنَا فِيهِ أَنَخْنَا

And on the gravel of al-Muhassab within your sanctuary,

In the valley of your shelter, we stayed,

And upon the pebbles of Al-Muhassab within your sanctuary,

we alighted, and there made hardship kneel.

Setting down our burdens, we rested.

We alighted, and made our hardships kneel there.

وَعِنْدَ وُصُولِنَا لِمُنَى الأَمَانِي

وَعِنْدَ وُصُولِنَا لِمُنَى الأَمَانِي

ضَرِيحِكَ مَوْئِدِ الرَّاجِي اسْتَرَحْنَا

ضَرِيحِكَ مَوْئِدِ الرَّاجِي اسْتَرَحْنَا

And upon reaching the Mina of wishes—

And upon reaching the hopes' destination,

And upon our arrival at the Mina of our desires—

your tomb, the hopeful one's resting place—we rested.

At your tomb of feasts, we recovered.

Your tomb, the refuge of the hopeful—we rested.

رَمَيْنَا الْجَمْرَ فِيهِ جِمَارَ وَجْدٍ

رَمَيْنَا الْجَمْرَ فِيهِ جِمَارَ وَجْدٍ

وَبُدْنَ شَقَائِنَا الشَّاقِي نَحَرْنَا

وَبُدْنَ شَقَائِنَا الشَّاقِي نَحَرْنَا

There we cast the embers as pebbles of longing,

Casting our troubles like stones, peace we attained,

We cast the pebbles there, pebbles of passionate longing,

and we slaughtered the sacrificial camels of our tormenting misery.

Sacrificing the camel of our misery.

And the sacrificial beasts of our arduous misery, we slaughtered.

فَحَلَّ لَنَا التَّرَفُّهُ فَاقْتَرَحْنَا

فَحَلَّ لَنَا التَّرَفُّهُ فَاقْتَرَحْنَا

فَطِبْنَا أَنْفُساً مِمَّا طَرِبْنَا

فَطِبْنَا أَنْفُساً مِمَّا طَرِبْنَا

Then ease became lawful for us, so we made requests.

Relief allowed us to gain respite,

Then ease became lawful to us, so we made our requests,

So our souls were gladdened by our rejoicing.

Healing our souls from past troubles.

And our souls were pleased by what delighted us.

وَقُلْنَا وَالْكَفِيلُ بِمَا طَلَبْنَا

وَقُلْنَا وَالْكَفِيلُ بِمَا طَلَبْنَا

سَخَاؤُكُمُ الذِي أَغْنَى الْمُعَنَّى

سَخَاؤُكُمُ الذِي أَغْنَى الْمُعَنَّى

And we said—the guarantor of what we asked for

We said, our Guarantor will grant what we seek,

And we said, while the guarantor of what we sought

being your generosity, which enriched the afflicted—

Your generosity which enriches meaning.

Is your generosity, which has enriched the afflicted:

أَلاَ أَنْجِزْ مَطَالِبَنَا وَأَسْبِلْ

أَلاَ أَنْجِزْ مَطَالِبَنَا وَأَسْبِلْ

عَلَيْنَا مِنْ سَحَابِ جَدَاكَ مُزْنَا

عَلَيْنَا مِنْ سَحَابِ جَدَاكَ مُزْنَا

Come, fulfill our requests and send down

So fulfill our hopes and rain down upon us,

"Oh, fulfill our demands and pour down

upon us rainclouds from the cloud of your bounty.

From the clouds of your kindness, ample gifts.

Upon us a heavy rain from the clouds of your bounty.

أَمِطْ عَنَّا أَذَى الدُّنْيَا وَأَهْدِي

أَمِطْ عَنَّا أَذَى الدُّنْيَا وَأَهْدِي

لَنَا مِمَّا نُؤَمِّلُ مِنْكَ بُدْنَا

لَنَا مِمَّا نُؤَمِّلُ مِنْكَ بُدْنَا

Remove the world's harm from us, and offer

Remove from us the harms of this life,

Remove from us the harm of the world, and gift

us sacrificial camels from what we hope for from you.

And grant us what we hope for from you.

Us a bountiful offering of what we hope from you.

بِمَا تَحْوِيهِ مِنْ خَيْرٍ وَخِيرٍ

بِمَا تَحْوِيهِ مِنْ خَيْرٍ وَخِيرٍ

وَعِزٍّ بَاهِرِ الْمَعْنَى أَعِنَّا

وَعِزٍّ بَاهِرِ الْمَعْنَى أَعِنَّا

With the goodness and generosity you hold

With the good and honor you possess,

With what you possess of goodness and virtue,

and glory of dazzling import, help us.

Help us attain glory's lofty meaning.

And glory of dazzling significance, help us.

وَإِلاَّ فَالْعَلاَءُ لَنَا خَصِيمٌ

وَإِلاَّ فَالْعَلاَءُ لَنَا خَصِيمٌ

يُوَبِّخُنَا إِذَا أُبْنَا وَخِبْنَا

يُوَبِّخُنَا إِذَا أُبْنَا وَخِبْنَا

Otherwise, eminence will be our adversary,

Else the Most High will dispute us,

Otherwise, eminence itself will be our adversary,

rebuking us if we return disappointed.

Chiding when we err and slip.

Rebuking us if we return having failed.

أَلاَ يَا بَذْلَهُ الْمَبْذُولَ حُطْنَا

أَلاَ يَا بَذْلَهُ الْمَبْذُولَ حُطْنَا

وَذُدْ عَنَّا التَّلَهُّفَ حَيْثُ عَنَّى

وَذُدْ عَنَّا التَّلَهُّفَ حَيْثُ عَنَّى

Ah, O his freely bestowed bounty, protect us,

Bestower of gifts, grace us,

Oh, his freely offered generosity, protect us,

and ward off anguished longing wherever it torments us.

And ward off our restless longing.

And drive away sorrow from us wherever it appears.

وَيَا رَيَّا الْمَوَاهِبِ مِنْ ثَرَاهُ

وَيَا رَيَّا الْمَوَاهِبِ مِنْ ثَرَاهُ

أَلاَ هِبِّي عَلَى أَحْشَاءِ مُضْنَى

أَلاَ هِبِّي عَلَى أَحْشَاءِ مُضْنَى

And O fragrance of gifts from his soil,

Distributor of bounty from your affluence,

And O sweet breeze of gifts from his soil,

ah, blow upon the vitals of one worn out,

Come down upon my grieving heart.

Oh, blow upon the heart of the exhausted.

وَنَافِحْنِي وَطَارِحْنِي وَأَحْيِ

وَنَافِحْنِي وَطَارِحْنِي وَأَحْيِ

قُلَيْبِي إِنَّهُ بِالْهَمِّ يُعْنَى

قُلَيْبِي إِنَّهُ بِالْهَمِّ يُعْنَى

and breathe upon me, converse with me, and revive

Rouse me, wrestle me, enliven

And waft over me, converse with me, and revive

my little heart, for it is burdened with care.

My heart which is full of cares.

My little heart, for it is burdened with worry."

إِلَيْكَ وَسِيلَتِي مَنْ قَدْ هَدَانِي

إِلَيْكَ وَسِيلَتِي مَنْ قَدْ هَدَانِي

إِلَى مَغْنَى عُلاَكَ أَجَلِّ مَغْنَى

إِلَى مَغْنَى عُلاَكَ أَجَلِّ مَغْنَى

My means of approach to you is He who guided me

You are my plea, my guide

My intermediary to you is the One who guided me

to the abode of your glory, the noblest abode,

To the refuge of your heights, most sublime.

To the dwelling of your glory, the most majestic of dwellings.

وَمَنْ أَبْدَى سَنَاكُمْ وَاصْطَفَاكُمْ

وَمَنْ أَبْدَى سَنَاكُمْ وَاصْطَفَاكُمْ

فَأَنْهَلَكُمْ بِكَأْسِ الْوُدِّ مَنَّا

فَأَنْهَلَكُمْ بِكَأْسِ الْوُدِّ مَنَّا

and who revealed your radiance and chose you,

He who revealed your brilliance and chose you,

And the One who revealed your radiance and chose you,

then graciously gave you drink from the cup of love,

And let you taste the wine of love from us.

And graced you to drink from the cup of love as a favor.

وَأَبْدَى سِرَّكُمْ لِلنَّاسِ جَهْراً

وَأَبْدَى سِرَّكُمْ لِلنَّاسِ جَهْراً

وَصَيَّرَ قَبْرَكُمْ حَرَماً وَحِصْنَا

وَصَيَّرَ قَبْرَكُمْ حَرَماً وَحِصْنَا

and revealed your secret openly to the people,

Who made your secrets manifest to all,

And revealed your secret to the people openly,

and made your grave a sanctuary and a fortress.

And made your tomb inviolable sanctuary.

And made your tomb a sanctuary and a fortress.

عَلَى مَبْعُوثِهِ لِلنَّاسِ طُرّاً

عَلَى مَبْعُوثِهِ لِلنَّاسِ طُرّاً

صَلاَةٌ تَقْتَضِي أُنْساً وَأَمْناً

صَلاَةٌ تَقْتَضِي أُنْساً وَأَمْناً

Upon His messenger to all humankind

For the one sent as mercy to mankind,

Upon His messenger, sent to all humanity,

be a blessing that brings solace and safety,

A prayer of comfort and safety.

Be a blessing that brings intimacy and safety.

وَآلِهِ وَالصِّحَابِ وَتَابِعِيهِمْ

وَآلِهِ وَالصِّحَابِ وَتَابِعِيهِمْ

وَمَنْ أَعْلَى لِدِينِ اللهِ رُكْنَا

وَمَنْ أَعْلَى لِدِينِ اللهِ رُكْنَا

and upon his family, the Companions, and their followers,

And his family, companions, and followers,

And upon his family, his companions, and their followers,

and whoever raised a pillar for God's religion.

Who fortified faith's edifice.

And whoever raises high a pillar for the religion of Allah.

صَلاَةٌ لَدْنَةُ النَّسَمَاتِ تَتْرَى

صَلاَةٌ لَدْنَةُ النَّسَمَاتِ تَتْرَى

عَلَيْهِمْ مَا ثَنَى النَّسَمَانُ غُصْنَا

عَلَيْهِمْ مَا ثَنَى النَّسَمَانُ غُصْنَا

A blessing of gentle breezes, coming in succession

A delicate prayer which gently blows,

A blessing with gentle breezes, arriving in succession,

upon them as long as the breeze bends a bough.

Upon them forever more.

Upon them, as long as the wind bends a branch.
