The valley of al-Nafis is precious; within it is solace
The valley of Nafis is precious, holding solace within
for anyone beset by anxiety at separation from family.
For whoever is afflicted by the anxious grief of parting from kin,

The wind’s breezes offered us, as they wafted
The gentle breezes of the wind, as they wafted, gifted us
through it, what Fez had entrusted to her breaths.
With the very breaths that the city of Fez had entrusted to them,
حَيْثُwhere الطُّيُورُعَلَىthe birds upon الأَدْوَاحِthe spreading trees صَادِحَةٌsinging
حَيْثُ الطُّيُورُعَلَى الأَدْوَاحِ صَادِحَةٌ

وَالنَّهْرُ مُطَّرِدٌ وَالرَّوْضُ مَيَّاسُ
There the birds sing upon the spreading trees,
Where the birds upon the sprawling branches sing aloud,
and the river flows steadily, and the meadow sways gracefully.
And the river flows steadily, while the meadow gracefully sways.
