Seeking refuge in You from my time and its sorrows,
O my God, and from my enemy and his malice,
O my God, and from the machinations of my own soul,
O my God, and from the envier against me and his prying,
O my God, and from anxieties, and from the ev-
-il of the one who hunts minds with his venomous breath,
O my God, and from my deeds and their shabbiness,
O my God, and from my speech and its obscenity,
O my God, and from the consequence of my bad assumptions,
O my God, and from my certainty and its corruption,
O my God, from my disappointment in my hopes,
And the wresting of my purpose from me and its uprooting,
O my God, and from my distancing from that which
Brings me closer to right guidance and its occurrence,
O my God, and from my drawing near to whoever
Necessitates distance from Your pleasure by their defilement,
And my standing at a door other than Yours for even a day,
O my God, and the ruggedness of my sorrow and its hardship,
O my God, and from the constriction of my chest, and the ty-
-ing of my tongue from speaking the truth and spreading it,
O my God, and from the confusion of my thoughts,
Distracted by the pastures of livelihood and its remnants,
O my God, in You I seek relief, so grant me relief,
And guide me to the restoration of my state and its mending,
O my God, in You I seek refuge, so grant me refuge,
Spare me from igniting my own evil and cultivating it,
O my God, to You I hold fast, so protect me,
O my God, from the plundering of my honor and its defilement,
O my God, do not leave me to myself,
Or to someone whose spark of wrath blazes,
Or to one whose calamities must be feared,
Or to one who wounds certainty with his falseness,
Or to one whose affection—and You are All-Knowing—
Causes my heart to melt away through his deceit,
Or to one who exposes my hidden secrets,
Or to one who reveals faults by excavating them,
And my intercessor to You is he, through whom You, O Lo-
-rd, grant me intercession to sip his pure essence,
Ahmad the Chosen, the most exalted of creation,
The one at whose advent the rising star of misguidance fell,
So upon him be blessings from You, showering down,
Their heavy rain upon his tomb until the Day of his Resurrection,
And upon his family and his companions, from
Every one in whose firm grasp guidance became compliant,
Here I am, taking shelter in him, crying out: 'O hel-
-p!' from the burning anguish of the heart and its grief,
Here I am, parched with thirst, hoping for a rain
Whose light drizzle will surely extinguish this inner fire,
Here I am, the servant, having called out: 'O Mas-
-ter! I have melted away from nursing on my sorrow and its suckling,'
The galloping army of my anxieties has wounded my heart,
Since my consolation vanished beneath its trampling,
O Most Compassionate, do not confront the basest of cri-
-minals, the condemned, with his perjury,
If he has deviated from Your pleasure, then indeed the ser-
-vant is dragged to ruin by the wickedness of his nature,
I am a servant who has broken the bonds of Your cove-
-nant, and a servant has nothing but his breaching.
Oh, to You belongs all grace! I have never been accustomed to anything but
The downpour of grace; do not return me to its mere dampness,
And to You is the praise, sparking light just as You igni-
-ted the fire-stick of intellect after its confusion,
And to You is the praise, pure just as You pu-
-rified the gold dust of poetry after its adulteration,
And to You is the thanks, crystal clear just as You re-
-fined the brocade of my mind after its coarseness,
And to You is the thanks, fragrant just as You swee-
-tened my speech with my reflection after its meagerness,
And to You is the thanks that You guided, and You gif-
-ted, and You taught what I have ascended by broadcasting,
And to You is the thanks for that which I cannot enu-
-merate, and for granting me the reins of its swift flow.
