O you of fluent words, sweet to the taste,

And son of those who trained mature, noble-bred steeds,

And you, through whom Tetouan alone has been nourished,

In splendor, putting the valley of Iraq to shame.

God be praised—what stars she has brought forth!

Because of them, darkness overtook the horizon’s full moon.

You invited me to companionship in a garden,

Where the breeze of companionship was sweet and delightful.

At your service, O full moon of eminence and generosity!

So may imminent parting never afflict you, for all time.
