    O valiant, esteemed chieftain,

Who has won an ample mantle of glory,

Do not hold me accountable for an offense now past,

Which I committed out of aversion, not contentment.

And dispel my grievance by reproving me, for indeed

Estrangement has plunged me into the blaze of a ghada-wood fire.

May you never be stripped, through all time, of the robes of contentment,

O noble one who merits the choicest praise.

And I offer God's peace, fragrant,

To you, as long as lightning's keen blade flashes.
