O my master, of radiant ascent,

Your absence has kindled the flames of my anguish.

I speak, as the time of parting arrives,

While I am all but swimming in my tears:

Grievous to me is your parting, O

Gazelle of the pure sands and fawn of the dunes.

Though your figure has parted from my sight,

Your love has never parted from my ribs.

I entrust you to God, the Exalted,

And he whom God protects is never forsaken.
