يَاO مُذِيباًone who melts away لِبَاتِرَاتِof the cutting blades الْبَاسِhardship
O Abu Ya'za, O giver of honor to people,
O Abu Ya'za, O comforter of people,
O Abu Ya'za, O bestower of honor upon the people,
O you who melt the cutting blades of hardship,
O melter of the troubles of the distressed,
O you who melts away the sharp blades of hardship,
قَدْindeed حَثَثْنَاwe hastened الرَّحِيلَdeparture مِنْfrom أَرْضِthe land of فَاسِFez

نَرْتَجِيwe hope for مِنْكَfrom you عَاطِرَfragrant الأَنْفَاسِbreaths
We have hastened our departure from the land of Fez,
We have prepared to depart from the land of Fez,
We have hastened our departure from the land of Fez,
We hope for fragrant breaths from you.
Seeking your sweet-smelling breath.
Hoping to receive from you the most fragrant of breaths,
فَأَفَاضَthen he poured forth الإِكْرَامَhospitality فَيْضَa flood of بِحَارٍseas

Then he poured forth hospitality in floods like seas—
So he overflowed with abundant generosity,
Then he poured forth generosity like overflowing seas,
Your chosen son, Abu al-Abbas,
Your excellent son, Abu al-Abbas,
Your well-pleasing son, Abu Al-Abbas,

Patient with delegations, like his father,
Patient with the visiting delegations, just like his father,
My master Sabir, the light of predawn darkness.
My master, the patient bearer of burdens.
My master Sabir, the guiding light in the darkest hours,

His abode has brought us all together,
Our entire gathering was welcomed by the home of his dwell-

He scattered it, though it contained no people.
-ing into its sanctuary, and he was never forgetful of us,
وَحَبَانَاand he bestowed on us مِنْfrom أُنْسِهِhis companionship بِالأَمَانِيwith hopes
فَالآنَso he softened (likely intended) مِنَّاamong us الذِيthe one who هُوَis قَاسِhard-hearted
And through his companionship he bestowed hopes on us,
And he has granted us, with hopes, security,
He bestowed upon us our deepest hopes through his gracious company,
So he softened the hard-hearted among us.
So now, which of us is hardy?
And he softened the hardened hearts within us,
وَأَتَانَاand came to us مِنْfor أَجْلِكُمْyour sake كُلُّevery خَيْرٍgood thing

And every good thing came to us for your sake,
And for your sake, he has brought us every good,
And for your sake, every goodness has come to us,
And he gave us every cup of his kindness to drink.
And let us drink deep of his kindness.
And he poured for us every cup of his righteousness,

So let the clouds of your bounty pour down upon him,
So pour upon him your flowing generosity,
So let the clouds of your generosity rain abundantly upon him,
For he feeds, gives, and clothes.
For he is the feeder, the pourer of drinks.
For he is the one who feeds, bestows, and clothes others,

And quench the burning heat of our hardship with your generosity,
For it heals me of bankruptcy.
For it relieves me of bankruptcy.
For it is what cures me of my ruin,
