Never have I seen anything so distant as my strings.
I have not seen one so far as my strings
I have never seen anything reach as far as my strings,
They burn and soothe with my ornamented verse and poems.
That prays and finds comfort in my compositions and poetry
Kindling passion and bringing solace through my strophic verses and my poetry.

وَجْدُ الْغَرِيبِ وَجَرَّ الذَّيْلَ ذُو الدَّارِ
Whenever I mention Husayn in Iraq, there rises
When I remember Hussein in Iraq it rains
Whenever I mention Husayn in Iraq, there soars
the stranger's yearning, and the householder trails his hem.
A stranger's fervor and the train of the long robe
The longing of the exile, while the resident trails his robes.
