أَذْكَرَنِيreminded me of قُوَيْسِماًQuwaysim بُنَيِّmy little son
وَالذِّكْرُand remembrance مُطْلِقٌloosening لِسَانَthe tongue of الْعِيِّthe tongue-tied
My little son reminded me of Quwaysim.
Remember me sometimes, my son
I was reminded of my little son, Quwaysim,
And remembrance loosens the tongue of the tongue-tied.
And memories unleash the eloquent tongue
And memory unties the tongue of the inarticulate.
يَاO رَبِّmy Lord فَاجْمَعْنَاso gather us مَعاًtogether فِيin الْحَيِّthe abode
يَاO حَيُّLiving One مَاthere is no عَنْهُfrom Him غِنىًindependence لِحَيِّfor any living being
O my Lord, so gather us together in the abode.
O Lord, gather us together in life
O Lord, bring us together in the dwelling-place,
O Living One, whom no living being can do without.
O Living One, no life without Him thrives
O Living One, whom no living being can do without,
جَمْعاًa union يُفَرِّقُscatters جُمُوعَthe hosts of الْغَيِّerror
كَالْجَمْعِlike the union بَيْنَbetween ذِيone possessed of الظَّمَاthirst وَالرِّيِّand the quenching of thirst
In a union that scatters the hosts of error,
A gathering that disperses hordes astray
A gathering that disperses the multitudes of error,
Like joining one who thirsts with the quenching of thirst.
Like clouds converge where meadows pray
Like uniting the thirsty with the quenching drink.
