I have made my hopes kneel, O son of Abd Allah,

at your lofty side, O friend of God.

Unfasten their stout tether with your bounty,

O you whose sanctuary and standing are noble.

And pour seas of your generosity upon the supplicant,

O you who have risen in nobility above your peers.

By the Chosen One, the purest, the Messenger of God,

the best of humankind among those who command or forbid,

who dispels error with guidance, whose remembrance

    is sweeter in the mouth than Barni dates;

whom the All-Merciful singled out from His servants

with a care no person of rank has attained.

May He who chose him perpetuate His blessing upon him,

unbroken, following in succession without end,

and upon all his family and companions, those who

    sold their souls for the spirit of God;

whose remembrance cures hearts of thirst

and is sweeter to the parched than water.

And upon your exalted station, from one who came

seeking redress for an arrogant knave's deed,

crying for help in your sanctuary, bearing a burning anguish

whose scorching blasts water cannot extinguish,

be the purest greeting, like perfume and its spreading scent,

as long as gray doves coo on the boughs of thorn trees.
