Four letters took away my suffering

And cut off the ember-kindler’s supplies.

Through mīm, all that lived for my anguish died,

And through ḥāʾ, I carried my burden with ease.

And through mīm, I gained what had eluded me

Of fugitive hopes—glad tidings of my joy!

And through dāl, I drew up my bucket, full

From the wells of bounty, with the ropes of victory.
