بِقَبْرِat the grave of الصَّعِيدِيِّal-Ṣaʿīdī فَاسْتَشْفِعَنْthen seek intercession
إِلَىto اللهِGod يَنْفَضُّwill disperse عَنْكَfrom you الْحَزَنْsorrow
At al-Ṣaʿīdī’s grave, seek intercession
Seek intercession at the Sa'idi's grave
By the tomb of Al-Sa'idi, seek intercession
with God, and sorrow will fall away from you.
To God, grief will scatter from you
With Allah, and your sorrow shall be dispelled.
وَلُذْand seek refuge بِحِمَاهُin his protection فِإِنَّfor indeed حِمَاهُhis protection
أَمَانٌsafety لِمَنْfor whoever قَدْindeed بَرَتْهُhave worn him down الْمِحَنْtrials
And take refuge in his protection, for his protection
And take refuge in His protection, as His protection
And seek refuge in his sanctuary, for indeed his sanctuary
is safety for anyone whom trials have worn down.
Is safety for one tried by afflictions
Is a haven for one worn away by trials.
وَلاَand do not تَعْدُturn aside عَنْfrom قَصْدِهِseeking him سَاعَةًan hour
فَإِنَّfor indeed نَدَاهُhis bounty مُبِيدُdestroyer of الشَّجَنْgrief
And do not turn aside from seeking him for even an hour,
Do not avoid his purpose for an hour
Do not stray from seeking him for even an hour,
for his bounty banishes grief.
As his call dispels sorrow
For his generosity is the destroyer of grief.
فَكَمْfor how many مِنْof هُمُومٍcares غَدَاhas become فَاصِماًa breaker of
عُرَىthe bonds of خَطْبِهَاtheir affliction نَدَّfled مِنْهَاfrom them الْوَسَنْslumber
For how many cares has it broken
So many worries became resolute
For how many sorrows has he severed
the bonds of their affliction—cares from which slumber fled!
The knots of their affair the bamboo has split
The bonds of their affliction, from which slumber had fled.
أَمَوْلاَيَO my master قَدْindeed جِئْتُI have come مُنْتَجِعاًseeking bounty
نَدَىthe bounty of بَحْرِthe sea of كَفِّكَyour palm طَلْقَunbound الرَّسَنْthe rein
O my master, I have come seeking
My wish, I have come seeking
O my master, I have come seeking the bounty
the bounty of your palm’s sea, with reins unbound.
The soft flowing sea of your palm's breadth
Of the dew of your ocean-like hand, with an untethered rein.
وَأَجْدِرْand how deserving بِمَنْis whoever أَمَّheaded for مَثْوَاكَyour resting place أَنْto
يَنَالَattain مُنَاهُhis wishes وَلَمْand not يُغْتَبَنْbe cheated
And how fitting that whoever seeks your resting place should
And most deserving of one who frequented your dwelling
How worthy is the one who journeys to your resting place
attain his wishes and suffer no loss!
To gain his wish and not be disappointed
To attain his desires without being deprived.
فَعَجِّلْso hasten مُنَايَmy wishes وَسَكِّنْand soothe حَشَايَmy heart
فَقَدْfor indeed قَرْطَسَتْهُhave struck it squarely سِهَامُthe arrows of الزَّمَنْtime
So hasten the fulfillment of my wishes, and soothe my heart,
Hasten my death and settle my concerns
So hasten my hopes and bring peace to my heart,
for time’s arrows have struck it squarely.
For the arrows of time have pierced it
For the arrows of time have struck it directly.
وُكُنْand be لِيfor me مُجِيراًa protector مِنَfrom الْغَمَرَاتِoverwhelming perils
فَسُقْمِيfor my sickness طَوِيلٌprolonged وَدَائِيand my malady عَفَنْputrefaction
And be my protector against overwhelming perils,
And be my refuge from the flooding seas
And be my protector from overwhelming floods,
for my sickness is prolonged, and my malady is putrid.
For my illness is long and my disease rotten
For my sickness is prolonged and my illness has festered.
وَفُلْكُand the ship of افْتِقَارِيmy need لِبَحْرِfor the sea of اعْتِبَارِيmy reflection
ثَوَىhas remained وَنَسِيمُand the breeze of اصْطِبَارِيmy endurance سَكَنْhas stilled
And the ship of my need, bound for the sea of my reflection,
The ship of my poverty, the sea of my restraint
The ship of my neediness in the sea of my reflection
lies still, and the breeze of my endurance has stilled.
Dwelt, and the breeze of my patience calmed
Has run aground, and the breeze of my patience has stilled.
أَقُولُI say وَقَدْand indeed هَالَنِيalarmed me مُكْثُهُits lingering
أَلاَcome! أَزْجِهِsend it onward بِنَسِيمٍwith a breeze حَسَنْpleasant
I say, already alarmed by its lingering:
I say, and its length has weakened me
I say, while its lingering has filled me with dread:
Come, send it onward with a pleasant breeze,
Shall I not scent it with a good breeze?
Will you not propel it with a favorable breeze?

Doves have cooed and an ostrich of the upland cried
A dove, and as long as a white gazelle comes of age.
