فلذا يعودُ ليَ الغرام ويبدأُ
Love for the Hijaz has its beginning on my heart's horizon,
so passion returns to me and begins anew.

ترقى وحُمْر دموعه لا ترقأ
A lovesick man longs for the sanctuary, so his sorrows
rise, while his crimson tears do not cease.

فالعين تبرٌ ما تفيض ولؤلؤُ
Two ailments lie in his heart's core and his eyelids;
thus what the eye pours forth is unminted gold and pearls.

فَنَمت وعادت عِلّةً لا تبرأ
And love's origin, at first, is a glance;
then it grew and became an ailment that will not heal.

The robe of endurance apart from them is torn,
and cannot be mended without the beauty of reunion with them.

Long have I stood on the scorching ground of separation;
so when shall I find shade in the garden of their beauty?

while I see a gleam sparkling in its direction?

Why not, when the best of messengers is the refuge?
