    فلا تستكثرنَّ من الصِّحابَ

    Your enemy is drawn from your friend;

so do not seek too many companions.

For illness, when you see it, most often

    arises from food or drink.

When a friend changes, he becomes an enemy,

an open one—and all things tend toward reversal.

And if abundance were pleasing, it would be

right to keep company with the many.

But seldom do you seek many without

    stumbling upon wolves in clothes.

So leave the many aside: how often abundance

is shunned, and how often a little is relished!

And the salty seas do not quench thirst,

yet you find thirst quenched in drops of fresh water.
