للخبز مرئيٌّ ومسموعُ

Yaʿqūb has awoken, and his reverence

Jacob's dignity and reverence

for bread is visible and audible.

For bread has become visible and heard

رغيفه في قدر ديناره

رغيفه في قدر ديناره

بتلكم السكة مطبوعُ

بتلكم السكة مطبوعُ

His loaf is the size of his dinar,

Its loaf in the worth of a dinar

stamped with that minting die.

Is imprinted on that road

بل آية الكرسي مكتوبة

بل آية الكرسي مكتوبة

فهو طوال الدهر ممنوع

فهو طوال الدهر ممنوع

Rather, the Throne Verse is written on it,

Rather the verse of the throne is written

so it is forbidden for all time.

So it is forbidden throughout time

لا يشتكي ضيفٌ له كِظَّةً

لا يشتكي ضيفٌ له كِظَّةً

لكنه يقتله الجوع

No guest of his complains of indigestion,

No guest complains to him of meagerness

but hunger kills him.
