يرميhurls بهاwith her الشعرُpoetry بلداناًlands فبلداناthen more lands
يرمي بها الشعرُ بلداناً فبلدانا
When he saw his mother parceled out as plunder,
When he saw his mother being plundered
Poetry flinging her from land to land,
The poetry scatters her in countries and countries
أغضبتُهُI angered him فهجانيso he lampooned me غيرَnot منتصرٍvictorious
أغضبتُهُ فهجاني غيرَ منتصرٍ

كعاركٍ أنفه بالأرض غضبانا
I angered him, so he lampooned me, yet won no victory,
I angered him, so he attacked me without winning
Like one rubbing his nose against the ground in anger.
Like an angry bull butting the ground with its nose

خِزياً أعضَّ له من خِزي بورانا
I exposed in his verse, through the weakness of his powers,
His poetry revealed the weakness of his boast
A disgrace more biting to him than Buran's disgrace.
A shame that tore for him a shameful wound
