What happened was nothing intentional,

What happened wasn't something to rely on

But matters that coincided with Sunday

شَغَلَتْنا عن نصيبٍ وافرٍ

شَغَلَتْنا عن نصيبٍ وافرٍ

من سرورٍ بك يا ذُخْر الأبدْ

من سرورٍ بك يا ذُخْر الأبدْ

Kept us from an ample share

Distracted us from abundant fortune

Of joy in your company, O treasure for all time.

Of joy with you, O treasure of eternity

وسَنُعْفِي بوفاء صادقٍ

وسَنُعْفِي بوفاء صادقٍ

ولنا الحُظوةُ فيه والرَّشَدْ

ولنا الحُظوةُ فيه والرَّشَدْ

And we shall efface it with sincere faithfulness,

And we will make up with sincere loyalty

And in that lie our favor and right guidance.

For us is intimacy in it and guidance

وكفانا زاجراً عن غَدْرةٍ

وكفانا زاجراً عن غَدْرةٍ

قولُهُمُ أنجَز حرٌّ ما وعدْ

قولُهُمُ أنجَز حرٌّ ما وعدْ

And enough to deter us from betrayal was

And enough to deter us from treachery

Their saying: “A noble man fulfills what he promised.”

Their saying an honest one fulfills what he promised

وكَفَانا مُسْتَحثّاً قولهم

وكَفَانا مُسْتَحثّاً قولهم

لا تُؤخِّر لذّةَ اليوم لغدْ

لا تُؤخِّر لذّةَ اليوم لغدْ

And enough to spur us on was their saying:

And enough to urge us their saying

“Do not postpone today's pleasure until tomorrow.”

Do not delay today's pleasure until tomorrow
