وثقلُ قَرْنيه على رأسِهِ

Is there no fair-minded man among them

Is there not among them an impartial man

To do the poor wretch justice, even against himself?

هل نَقموا منه سوى جوده

وطيب نفْس فيه عن عِرسِهِ

وطيب نفْس فيه عن عِرسِهِ

Have they found fault with him for anything but his generosity

Did they resent him except for his generosity

And his cheerful willingness to part with his wife?

and the goodness of a soul free from fault
