We have known no food ready at hand

that we keep for the sudden arrival of guests,

like two prepared dishes, both bearing

a likeness to the righteous and the wicked:

    heads and bright, ample loaves,

both brought forth from a seething blaze,

like the faces of the people of Paradise, smiling upon us,

paired with the faces of the people of Hell.
