Visit only a king in his own home,

who takes no heed, in his drinking and eating,

and in his amusements and diversions,

and in the generosity that right bids him show

to a brother who seeks refuge in his bounty,

of his mother, his wife, and his upright men.

His slave has no hold on his vulnerable spot,

nor his boon companion while he takes refreshments.

And among strange things—indeed, among the baffling ones—

is a wealthy master listening to his own servant.

By enduring the other's pampered airs, he suggests

that he has a dire affliction in his backside.

That is not the most becoming aspect of a young man's conduct,

    nor its noblest, upon reflection.
