تميل إليها النفس مني وتصرفُ

Three things by which sorrow is dispelled,

Three things dispel worries when I incline towards them,

Toward which my soul inclines and is drawn:

My soul turns to them and is set free,

شراب وبستان وقطر سحابة

إذا قطرت أنواؤها ليس تخلف

إذا قطرت أنواؤها ليس تخلف

Wine, a garden, and the rain of a cloud,

A drink, a garden, a raindrop from a cloud,

When its showers fall, it never fails.

When its breeze drops, it leaves no trace,

ورابعة راح براحة شادن

ورابعة راح براحة شادن

بوجنته التفاح بالشم يقطف

بوجنته التفاح بالشم يقطف

And a fourth: wine in the palm of a young gazelle,

And a fourth is the joy of strolling through a lively orchard,

The apples on his cheek are plucked by smelling.

Plucking apples scented with jasmine,

وخامسة وصل الحبيب فإنه

وخامسة وصل الحبيب فإنه

لذيذ وأما غيرها فتكلُّف

لذيذ وأما غيرها فتكلُّف

And a fifth: union with the beloved, for it is

And a fifth is meeting a beloved, for that is sweet,

Delightful; and as for anything else, it is mere affectation.

While all else is pretense.
