صدقَspoke truly القائلونَthose who spoke إنكthat you ياO خاKhā- (first part of Khālid)
لدُ-lid (completing Khālid) أصبحتَyou have come to تظلمُyou wrong الشوكيّاal-Shawkī
Those who spoke told the truth: you, O Khā-
The truthful have said, O Khaled you have become unjust to Al-Shawkia
lid, have come to wrong al-Shawkī.
You claim generosity for him and his mother
تَدَّعيyou claim as yours سَخْلَةًa lamb or kid لهbelonging to him ولأمand to a mother
لمnot تزلْshe ceased to be تحتَهُbeneath him فِراشاًa bed وَطيَّاsoft
You claim as yours a kid born to him and to a mother
Yet you have always been their mattress and blanket
who has always been a yielding bed beneath him.
The burden of caring for them weighs upon your shoulders
ثِقلُthe weight أوراكِهاher hips علىon عاتِقَيهhis two shoulders
ولكand yours النسلُthe offspring جئتَyou have done شيئاًa thing فَرِيّاoutrageous
The weight of her hips rests on his shoulders,
Though from their offspring you came, an odd young fellow
yet the offspring is yours—you have done an outrageous thing!
So fear Allah, rather treat your uncle as an old man
فاتقِso fear اللَّهَGod بلrather إخالكَI deem you شيخاًan old man
يَتَّقِيhe shuns اللَّهby God أنto يكونbe تقيّاpious
So fear God! Rather, I deem you an old man
Who fears Allah lest he should ever be unjust
who, by God, shuns being pious.
