مسكُ قديماً عرقه

He is the one whose sweat, to us,

He who tells us that musk

musk has long resembled.

Once sweated its scent,

ولا يرى الله العلا

ولا يرى الله العلا

تسلك إلا طرقه

تسلك إلا طرقه

And God does not see the heights of glory

And sees not but that the heights of God

reached except along his paths.

Are reached only by His paths.

ذاك الذي من مائه

ذاك الذي من مائه

أنبت عودي ورقه

أنبت عودي ورقه

He is the one from whose water

He who from his water

my stem put forth its leaves,

Grew my rod and leaf,

ومن أماديحي له

ومن أماديحي له

من كيسه لا سرقه

من كيسه لا سرقه

and he for whom my poems of praise

And from His praise of me

come from his purse, not from theft.”

Gave from His purse, no theft.
