ما في حياة عبيد الله منفعةٌ

ما في حياة عبيد الله منفعةٌ

عندي سوى أنه تعويذُ عباس

عندي سوى أنه تعويذُ عباس

There is no benefit in Ubayd Allah's life,

There is no benefit in the lives of slaves of God

In my view, except that he is an amulet for Abbas.

Except that Abbas is a talisman for me

يرد عنه عيون الحاسدين له

يرد عنه عيون الحاسدين له

وكل سحرٍ ووسواس وخنَّاس

وكل سحرٍ ووسواس وخنَّاس

He wards off from him the eyes of those who envy him,

That ward off the envious eyes of those envious of him

And every spell, whisperer, and slinking tempter.

And all sorcery, obsession and sneakiness

عليه وجهٌ يرد العينَ خاسئةً

عليه وجهٌ يرد العينَ خاسئةً

والعين تفلق متن الجندل القاسي

والعين تفلق متن الجندل القاسي

He has a face that sends the evil eye back abashed,

Upon him a face that turns away the evil eye disappointed

Though the evil eye cleaves the back of hard rock.

And the eye splits the skin of the tough stalwart

شتان ما بين عباسٍ وصاحبه

شتان ما بين عباسٍ وصاحبه

في الفضل والخير عند اللَّه والناس

في الفضل والخير عند اللَّه والناس

How far apart are Abbas and his companion

What a difference between Abbas and his companion

In virtue and goodness, before God and people!

In virtue and kindness with God and people

فالله يفديه من كأس المنون به

فالله يفديه من كأس المنون به

فوجهه آثَرُ الوجهين بالكاس

فوجهه آثَرُ الوجهين بالكاس

So may God ransom Abbas from death's cup with his companion,

So may God ransom him from the cup of death through him

For his face is the worthier of the two faces for the cup.

For his face is the most noble of faces with the cup
